On October 25th, 2021, OE Solar hosted a Solar+Storage Groundbreaking Ceremony alongside Atrisco Heritage Academy project partners, Clean States Alliance, Albuquerque Public Schools, NM-EMRND, the United States Department of Energy, and the State of New Mexico.

The project had guest speakers:

Kimberli Roth, Director of Business Development

Tony Sparks, Project Manager

Abbas Akhil, Former NM State Representative

Abbas Akhil, former NM State Representative, discusses climate change and how the Atrisco project can serve as a blueprint for schools across America.

Also, in attendance Tony Sparks, Albuquerque Public Schools Project Manager presents project objectives including financial analysis and valued stakeholders.

The installation, which includes an 850 kW solar array combined with a 721 kW Tesla Megapack 2 battery storage system, will reduce energy costs by $3.5 million over the system’s 25-year lifetime. In the future, the system may be expanded and set up to provide resiliency benefits as well.

The event was kicked off by the Atrisco Hernachi Mariachi Band bringing life and culture.

The Atrisco Heritage Academy Marching Band also participated in the closing ceremony.

Atrisco Heritage High School serves 2,200 students within the Albuquerque Public School District, of which 14% of students come from disadvantaged households.

The project, which is part of DOE/Sandia National Laboratories Energy Storage for Social Equity Initiative, is jointly supported by Albuquerque Public Schools, OE Solar, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity, Sandia National Laboratories, the New Mexico Department of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, and Clean Energy States Alliance.
